In a significant development, the Railway Police in Bihar’s Rohtas district have apprehended a crucial suspect in a high-profile robbery case from Madhya Pradesh. The arrest took place at Dehri-on-Sone railway station by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), where Kamlesh Kumar was caught while allegedly trying to escape.
The accused, identified as Kamlesh Kumar, was found carrying a substantial amount of stolen goods, including Rs 15.72 lakh in cash and approximately 61 grams of gold jewelry valued at over Rs 9 lakh. Investigations revealed his involvement in a recent robbery at a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, where a significant amount of cash and gold were looted.
Kamlesh Kumar was part of a group of five individuals who carried out a daring daylight robbery at the bank, resulting in the theft of cash and gold worth up to Rs 15 crore. The criminals managed to escape on motorcycles after a swift operation that lasted only 15 minutes, during which they also assaulted the bank manager and fired shots to create chaos.
The successful arrest was made possible by the alertness of constables Umakant and Md. Nazim, who noticed suspicious behavior during routine patrol. The recovery of the stolen valuables was a result of their timely intervention. The accused, a resident of Nalanda district in Bihar, is currently under interrogation by a joint team of police officials from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, who are working together to further investigate the case.
Railway ASP Alok Kumar Singh praised the arrest as a significant achievement and commended the RPF team for their prompt and efficient action. This arrest not only solves a crucial aspect of the Singrauli robbery case but also underscores the importance of vigilant policing in apprehending criminals attempting to flee across state borders.
