Several districts in Rajasthan experienced rain and hailstorms, disrupting daily life and causing crop damage. Affected areas included Jaipur, Sikar, Churu, Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Kota, Tonk, Dausa, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara, and Jhalawar. Meteorological officials reported light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in eastern Rajasthan over the past 24 hours.
The highest rainfall of 26.0 mm was recorded in Manohar Thana, Jhalawar district. Additionally, moderate to dense fog affected visibility in some parts of the state. Temperatures ranged from 28.4 degrees Celsius in Dungarpur to 5.7 degrees Celsius in Nagaur. The weather conditions led to a significant drop in daytime temperatures in urban areas and caused extensive damage to crops like wheat, barley, gram, and mustard in rural regions.
The Jaipur Meteorological Centre predicts dense fog and mist in various parts of the state on January 29 and 30. Following the rain and hailstorm activity, a further decrease in temperatures is expected, intensifying cold conditions. Rainfall over the last 24 hours included 1.4 mm in Alwar, 1.8 mm in Jaipur, 2 mm in Kota, 4 mm in Karauli, and 2 mm in Dausa, with a notable temperature drop in several districts.
The Meteorological Centre forecasts more light rain and thunder in northern and eastern Rajasthan on January 31 and February 1 due to another western disturbance. Tragically, two lightning incidents proved fatal. In Deeg district’s Sikri area, a 25-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning while working in Nakcha village, with her sister sustaining injuries. In a separate incident, Sohni Devi from Meda village in Shrimadhopur area lost her life after being struck by lightning on her way to the hospital.
