Marking World Environment Day, Raj Thackeray, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, criticized the state and central governments for prioritizing urban expansion and tree-plantation drives solely for political gain. Thackeray highlighted the negative impact of mega-infrastructure projects that fail under minimal stress, causing chaos in cities even with light rainfall.
Thackeray expressed concern over the deteriorating living conditions, with urban areas facing waterlogging issues and rural regions witnessing agricultural losses due to extreme weather conditions. He emphasized the need for a balance between development and environmental preservation, pointing out the adverse effects of environmental degradation on India’s economic growth.
Addressing the younger generation, Thackeray raised awareness about the loneliness epidemic exacerbated by the lack of green spaces and environmental degradation. He urged the youth to demand better environmental policies and the preservation of natural landscapes for a sustainable future. Thackeray emphasized the urgent need for public accountability in safeguarding the environment for future generations.
