Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President Govind Singh Dotasra expressed disapproval of the state government’s decision to eliminate four books from the school curriculum for the 2026-27 academic year. Dotasra raised concerns that removing books like Rajasthan’s Freedom Movement and Gallantry Traditions, History and Culture of Rajasthan, Golden India After Independence, and Golden India After Independence – Part 2 could lead to students being exposed to incomplete information. He questioned the reasoning behind the removal and whether it was aimed at altering the narrative of nation-building.
The Congress leader suggested that if there were factual errors, they could have been rectified instead of completely removing the books, indicating that the motive may not be reform but erasure. He criticized the move as an effort to influence the portrayal of historical content and questioned the approach to curriculum modifications. Dotasra also queried whether lessons on the freedom struggle, valor, and historical heritage had been eliminated, highlighting the contributions of various leaders and movements to India’s independence and post-independence progress.
Furthermore, Dotasra mentioned that Golden India After Independence contains mentions of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the development of democratic institutions and key establishments like IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, DRDO, UGC, and the Planning Commission. He emphasized the role of B. R. Ambedkar in framing the Constitution, which ensures justice, equality, and reservation. The Congress leader also referenced the tenures of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, highlighting their respective contributions to various sectors and reforms that strengthened governance frameworks.
Dotasra pointed out past instances where references to historical figures and events were removed from educational material, expressing concerns about how historical developments are represented in the curriculum.
