Rajasthan cricket saw the rise and fall of the Rajasthan Cricket Association’s ad-hoc committee over the past two-and-a-half years. Initially a temporary setup, the committee faced repeated extensions, leadership changes, and allegations of promoting “parivarvad.”
The Rajasthan High Court recently suspended the ad-hoc committee and appointed senior IAS officer Bhaskar A. Sawant as administrator. The court directed that elections be conducted promptly, putting an end to the prolonged administrative uncertainty.
Since its inception in 2024, the ad-hoc committee faced multiple extensions, internal disputes, and mounting controversies. Despite promises of conducting elections, the committee failed to fulfill its primary task, leading to growing criticism and questions about its prolonged existence.
Facing opposition and complaints, the government replaced the committee’s convener multiple times, but the administrative challenges persisted. The prolonged ad-hoc regime, marked by leadership changes and stalled election processes, finally came to a close with the court’s intervention.
The Rajasthan cricket fraternity had long demanded a return to elected leadership, and the court’s decision to suspend the ad-hoc committee and push for prompt elections was a significant step towards restoring democratic governance in the state’s premier cricket body.
