The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly is set to commemorate its 75th anniversary with a grand Amrit Mahotsav on Wednesday. The event will bring together constitutional dignitaries, current and former legislators, and parliamentarians in a unique gathering. The Assembly will honor 26 legislators who have been elected six or more times, recognizing their significant contributions to parliamentary democracy.
Most of the honorees are aged over 70, and the event is anticipated to set several milestones. Notable dignitaries attending include Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani, and two former Chief Ministers, Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje. Additionally, 35 Members of Parliament, 25 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, will participate, alongside nearly 695 current and former MLAs.
The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has become the first state legislature in India to celebrate its 75-year journey with an Amrit Mahotsav. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the celebrations at 10 a.m. after arriving in Jaipur on Wednesday morning. The concluding session, scheduled for 4 p.m., will be graced by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan as the chief guest, with Governor Haribhau Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma as distinguished guests.
As part of the festivities, 26 MLAs who have served six or more terms will be felicitated for their public service contributions. Special accommodation arrangements have been made for current and former legislators at various locations. The Amrit Mahotsav will also include discussions on 24 landmark legislations that have influenced Rajasthan’s governance and development over the past seven and a half decades.
Sixteen current and former legislators will engage in discussions on the significance and impact of these historic laws. The celebrations aim to showcase the Assembly’s democratic legacy while uniting generations of lawmakers on a common platform for the first time.
