The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scam in Rajasthan, alleged by state minister Kirodi Lal Meena to involve irregularities worth Rs 20,000 crore, has resurfaced. Recent arrests of senior officials, including the chief engineer (administration), have reignited political discussions and heightened scrutiny of the investigation. Meena’s claims date back to June 2023 when he protested outside a police station in Jaipur, demanding an FIR over JJM tender irregularities.
The controversy revolves around alleged serious irregularities in the tendering process under the Jal Jeevan Mission during the Congress government’s tenure led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Meena has accused violations of the Rajasthan Transparency in Public Procurement Act, 2012, stating that such violations could lead to imprisonment ranging from six months to five years. In a recent development, officials from the Water Supply Department have been arrested in connection with an alleged Rs 930 crore scam, drawing attention back to the broader allegations.
