Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Riyan Parag expressed regret over missed opportunities as his team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match. Parag acknowledged that despite good execution in parts, fielding lapses were costly. He emphasized the importance of being clinical, especially in fielding, to secure victories.
After opting to bat first, Rajasthan Royals set a formidable target of 228/6, powered by a remarkable 103 off 37 balls by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a quick 51 from Dhruv Jurel. Contributions from Donovan Ferreira and Shimron Hetmyer further boosted the total, giving RR a strong position at the innings break.
However, Sunrisers Hyderabad comfortably chased down the target with nine balls to spare, fueled by a brilliant 74 off 31 balls by Ishan Kishan and a rapid 57 from Abhishek Sharma, who together shared a crucial 132-run partnership.
Reflecting on the batting performance, Parag admitted that RR left around 10-15 runs on the table, particularly due to effective bowling by SRH in the 18th and 19th overs. He acknowledged the need for a slightly higher total to defend successfully.
Discussing his bowling strategies, Parag explained his decision to utilize part-time bowlers during the middle overs, aiming to target the left-handed SRH batsmen. Despite the plan not yielding the desired results, Parag indicated a willingness to make similar decisions in future matches.
Parag also recognized the challenges posed by the opposition’s in-form players and the varying conditions encountered throughout the tournament. He highlighted the need for adaptability and strategic adjustments in response to different venues and opponents, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the game.
Following this defeat, Rajasthan Royals have slipped to the fourth position in the points table with 10 points from 8 matches. Their next match is against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 28.
