The Rajya Sabha election process in Rajasthan wrapped up smoothly, with all three candidates winning unopposed. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominees Alka Gurjar and Satish Poonia, along with Congress candidate Neeraj Dangi, were declared elected by the Returning Officer at the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. The results were announced by Returning Officer Bharat Bhushan Sharma after the withdrawal deadline passed, and no additional candidates were left in the race.
Following the official declaration, the three successful candidates received certificates of election. The BJP secured two out of the three Rajya Sabha seats, while the Congress retained one through the election of Neeraj Dangi. The election of Satish Poonia, a former Rajasthan BJP president and prominent OBC leader, is seen as a significant move by the party to strengthen its representation in the Upper House.
Neeraj Dangi’s re-election ensures the Congress maintains its voice from Rajasthan in the Upper House. Dangi has been a key figure in the party’s state leadership and a prominent representative in the Rajya Sabha. With the election process completed, Rajasthan’s representation in the Rajya Sabha will now include the newly elected members, who are expected to take oath and assume their responsibilities soon.
The unopposed election of all three candidates underscored the absence of a direct contest, simplifying the process at the Assembly. Leaders from both the BJP and Congress congratulated the winners, expressing confidence in their ability to effectively represent Rajasthan’s concerns in Parliament. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Satish Poonia, speaking to the media, emphasized his commitment to raising public welfare issues in Parliament as a responsible Upper House member.
