Congress leader Rashid Alvi emphasized the importance of Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, stating that he is crucial for the nation. Alvi praised Gandhi for his unique approach in challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a stance unmatched by other leaders.
Alvi criticized the BJP for consistently targeting the Congress and trying to corner it on communal grounds. He highlighted the BJP’s habit of blaming the Congress whenever a Muslim-related issue arises, instilling fear not only in the Congress but also in other secular parties.
According to Alvi, secular parties, though not anti-Muslim, often refrain from openly supporting them due to the BJP’s accusations of appeasement. This reluctance, he noted, ultimately harms the Muslim community, as the BJP continues its verbal attacks while others remain silent.
Alvi also addressed the Vande Mataram controversy, stating that while individuals are free to sing it voluntarily, it should not be imposed on anyone. He supported the right of those who wish to sing the national song on its 150th anniversary but emphasized that it should be a personal choice.
