Two rebel Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members and one party legislator participated in an administrative review meeting overseen by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari in Kolaghat, East Midnapore district. The meeting focused on assessing the administrative operations of East Midnapore, West Midnapore, and Jhargram districts.
The two Lok Sabha members present were actor-turned-politician Deepak Adhikari, also known as Dev, representing Ghatal, and actress-turned-politician June Malia, representing Medinipur. Both constituencies are situated in West Midnapore district. The attending Trinamool Congress legislator was Siuli Saha, the current deputy leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and a key figure in the party’s rebel block led by expelled legislator Ritabrata Banerjee.
Additionally, Dev and Malia are part of a group of 20 Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members, including senior MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Satabdi Roy, who have openly rebelled against Abhishek Banerjee’s leadership. Chief Minister Adhikari, since assuming office, has been inviting elected public representatives, including MPs and MLAs from opposition parties, to these review meetings. He emphasizes the importance of coordination between district administration and elected representatives for effective administrative functioning, regardless of party affiliations.
The tradition of inviting opposition MPs and MLAs to such meetings was followed during the Left Front regime from 1977 to 2011, under Chief Ministers Jyoti Basu and Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. However, this practice was discontinued during the Trinamool Congress rule from 2011 to 2026. The current BJP government, led by CM Adhikari, has reinstated this system for better governance.
