The 77th Republic Day celebration in Jammu and Kashmir took place at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu, with Lt Governor Manoj Sinha unfurling the National Flag and overseeing the parade. Sinha paid tribute to freedom fighters and the framers of India’s Constitution, emphasizing their vision and sacrifices that shaped the nation. He praised the Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, and Jammu and Kashmir Police for their dedication in maintaining peace and security in the region.
The Lt Governor stressed the importance of steering Jammu and Kashmir towards progress and prosperity by focusing on economic growth and infrastructure development. He highlighted the need for quality education, healthcare, and equal opportunities for youth, including women, to drive overall advancement in the region. The parade featured contingents from the Army, CAPFs, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and schoolchildren, followed by cultural performances and drills.
In Srinagar, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary led the Republic Day event at Bakshi Stadium, honoring the memory of tourists killed by terrorists in Pahalgam. Choudhary condemned Pakistan for disrupting peace and tourism in the region and praised those who contributed to shaping Jammu and Kashmir’s constitution. He encouraged tourists to visit the region and paid tribute to security forces for their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation’s freedom.
Republic Day celebrations were also held in all district headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir, featuring flag hoisting, parades, and cultural activities. The events concluded peacefully, with officials and civilians participating in the festivities.
