The retail price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the national capital was increased by Rs 1 per kg on Saturday, marking the third hike in 10 days. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) reported that the price of CNG in New Delhi rose to Rs 81.09 per kg from Rs 80.09 per kg. In neighboring cities like Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad, prices have gone up to Rs 89.70 per kg, while in Gurugram, it is now Rs 86.12 per kg.
The recent increase follows a Rs 2 per kg hike on May 15 and a Re 1 per kg rise on May 17. This surge in CNG rates is likely to affect transport operators and commuters using gas-powered vehicles in Delhi, leading to increased household expenses and logistics costs. Additionally, state-owned oil marketing companies raised petrol and diesel prices on Saturday, marking the third consecutive increase in about 10 days.
Petrol prices went up by Rs 0.87 per litre, and diesel prices saw a Rs 0.91 per litre increase. This latest hike is attributed to the sustained pressure from escalating global crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, impacting international energy markets. In Delhi, petrol prices rose from Rs 98.64 to Rs 99.51 per litre, while diesel increased from Rs 91.58 to Rs 92.49 per litre. The uniform price revision is part of a broader nationwide adjustment affecting various cities across the country.
In Kolkata, petrol prices reached Rs 110.64 per litre, and diesel prices hit Rs 97.02 per litre post the recent hike. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, petrol prices surged to Rs 108.49 per litre, and diesel prices climbed to Rs 95.02 per litre. Responding to concerns over rising fuel costs, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju stated earlier this month that despite the sharp rise in global crude prices, India has managed to contain the increase in petrol and diesel prices.
