The University of Kashmir has initiated a review of books, magazines, journals, and research materials in its libraries to ensure they do not contain objectionable content. Similarly, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir has mandated a comprehensive assessment of books in government, private schools, and coaching centers to eliminate any inappropriate material. This move aims to uphold educational values and align with the National Education Policy 2020 guidelines.
The directive requires heads of institutions to examine all books in various areas like offices, classrooms, and libraries for content that could offend religious sentiments, violate laws, or contradict educational norms. If any objectionable material is discovered, a detailed report specifying the book’s details must be prepared. Institutions are expected to complete this review diligently and submit a compliance report by July 13 to the relevant authorities.
Zonal Education Officers will oversee the scrutiny of reports from schools and coaching centers within their jurisdiction and compile a consolidated report by July 15. Chief Education Officers in the Kashmir Division must then submit certificates and reports to the Directorate by July 17. A committee comprising officials from the Directorate of School Education Kashmir will collect certification reports from districts and present a consolidated report by July 19.
Failure to comply with these directives may result in disciplinary action against responsible officers as per the applicable rules. The process includes ensuring that all books adhere to the NEP-2020 guidelines and do not contain any objectionable content that could impact students negatively.
