A violent road accident on the Badagaon-Baldevgarh highway near the Gopalpura intersection in Madhya Pradesh’s Tikamgarh district resulted in more than 22 people getting injured after a speeding SUV collided with a tractor-trolley carrying devotees. The collision caused both vehicles to overturn, leading to chaos on the busy road. Ten of the injured individuals are in critical condition.
The incident took place late Saturday night when a tractor-trolley, transporting residents of Ramtoriya village in Chhatarpur district after a religious visit to Bagaj Mata Temple, was hit by a speeding SUV. The SUV’s impact was so intense that it caused both vehicles to flip over, trapping several passengers under the wreckage. The trolley was carrying men, women, and children who had participated in the temple visit.
As a result of the accident, 22 individuals sustained injuries of varying degrees. Local residents and passersby promptly responded by initiating rescue efforts. Despite the swift action by the locals, there was a significant delay in official emergency response, with ambulances arriving at the scene almost two hours later. In the absence of immediate professional assistance, villagers used their private vehicles to transport the injured to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Badagaon Dhasan.
All 22 injured individuals received primary treatment at the CHC, with 10 victims identified as critical cases. These critical patients were promptly transferred to the District Hospital in Tikamgarh for advanced medical care, where they are currently receiving treatment. Medical professionals are closely monitoring the critically injured individuals, many of whom have sustained fractures, head injuries, and internal trauma.
The accident underscores the persistent issue of speeding on rural highways in Madhya Pradesh and the susceptibility of tractor-trolleys, often utilized for transporting large groups during religious or social gatherings. Overloading and substandard road conditions are believed to have exacerbated the severity of the crash. Senior police and district administration officials visited the accident site and the hospital to assess the situation. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident, including the actions of the SUV driver, with authorities pledging strict action against those found guilty of reckless driving.
