Romanian Air Force pilots have successfully taken down a third drone that trespassed into Romanian airspace without permission. The incident occurred 12 km northeast of Sulina, within Romania’s territorial waters, as confirmed by the Ministry of National Defence of Romania.
President Nicusor Dan commended the pilots for their actions and criticized Russia for its unacceptable violation of Romania’s airspace. The drone, identified as a Shahed type used by Russia against Ukraine, was shot down by an F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force.
Investigations are ongoing regarding the drones shot down on Saturday and Sunday. President Dan emphasized that Romania’s diplomatic protest against Russia will be based on these investigations, highlighting the seriousness of such airspace violations.
Romania’s Ministry of National Defence reported that the unauthorized drone was detected entering the country’s airspace near the border with Ukraine. Two F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft intercepted and neutralized the drone, ensuring the safety of the national airspace.
