The Mayor of Milisauti Town in Romania, Vasile Carare, engaged in discussions with senior Gujarat government and municipal officials during a two-day visit to the state. The focus of the talks revolved around smart infrastructure, e-governance, and riverfront development. Carare, accompanied by his wife, is in India as part of a program by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, involving engagements in various states.
In Gujarat, Carare met with Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, and other senior officials of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to assess key urban development projects. Officials provided insights into initiatives concerning e-governance, citizen-centric services, urban transport systems, and solid waste management. The visit also included a tour of the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre to observe the utilization of digital platforms for real-time monitoring and civic service delivery.
The discussions encompassed the planning and execution of the Sabarmati Riverfront project. Carare shared insights into the Smart City development in Milisauti and explored the potential application of similar riverfront and digital governance models in his town. Additionally, he delved into the utilization of artificial intelligence and digital systems in urban administration.
In Gandhinagar, the Romanian mayor met with M. Thennarasan, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, and Remya Mohan, Commissioner of Municipalities and Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Gujarat Urban Development Mission. He received briefings on the state government’s urban development strategy and major infrastructure projects, including the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project, the Dholera Highway, the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Complex, and Dream City in Surat. Carare also visited GIFT City to assess its financial and technological infrastructure and regulatory framework.
Officials highlighted potential collaboration opportunities in riverfront development, urban transport, e-governance, urban development, as well as avenues for enhancing cultural exchange and exploring investment prospects between India and Romania.
