Romanian President Nicusor Dan appointed Adrian Vestea, the President of the Brasov County Council, as the new Prime Minister. Vestea, who is also the Vice-President of the National Liberal Party, was nominated after Independent candidate Eugen Tomac resigned. President Dan expressed confidence in Vestea’s capabilities, citing his successful track record in various administrative roles.
Vestea, in response, acknowledged the trust placed in him by President Dan and emphasized his familiarity with the state’s workings and people’s needs. He pledged to address the ongoing political crisis and fulfill the expectations of the Romanian populace. Vestea now has a 10-day window to form a government and secure a Parliamentary vote of confidence.
The decision to appoint Vestea followed Tomac’s inability to garner support from parliamentary parties. Tomac had been nominated as Prime Minister on June 4, subsequent to a no-confidence motion against Ilie Bolojan’s government. The motion, which led to Bolojan’s Cabinet resignation, was supported by Romania’s major Parliamentary parties, including the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR).
