Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia aims to achieve its objectives in Ukraine through a peace agreement rather than military means. However, if Kyiv does not agree to peace, Russia is prepared to pursue its goals through a strategic military alliance. Peskov’s comments were in response to US President Donald Trump’s mention of a potential deal with Ukraine.

Peskov emphasized that while Russia favors a peaceful resolution, it is ready to resort to “special military operations” if Kyiv does not cooperate. He also criticized the European Union for what he described as excessive anti-Russia sentiment, suggesting that the EU is bolstering its military capabilities in the absence of US support, leading to heightened tensions with Russia.

Regarding potential oil price increases, Peskov warned that damage to Russia’s export infrastructure by Kyiv could result in such consequences. He highlighted the alignment of views between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Trump on the situation in Kyiv, as discussed in a recent phone call. Additionally, Peskov announced Putin’s upcoming bilateral talks with dignitaries attending the Victory Day celebrations on May 9.
