Russia has reiterated its stance on Taiwan, declaring it an integral part of China and rejecting any moves towards Taiwanese independence. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized its commitment to the one-China principle, criticizing countries that advocate maintaining the status quo as hindering China’s reunification efforts. The ministry highlighted that some nations are exploiting the Taiwan issue to contain China strategically and militarily.
The Russian government has consistently upheld its position on Taiwan, emphasizing that the matter is China’s internal affair and that China has the right to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. This stance has been reiterated at the highest levels of Russian leadership, underscoring the country’s unwavering support for China on this issue. Meanwhile, a US Defense Department report to Congress has raised concerns about China’s military buildup aimed at potentially seizing Taiwan by 2027.
According to the report, the People’s Liberation Army of China is progressing steadily towards its military objectives, including the capability to secure a decisive victory over Taiwan. China’s military strategy regarding Taiwan has evolved to focus on pressuring Taipei for unification on Beijing’s terms, employing a range of tools such as military actions, diplomatic maneuvers, economic measures, and information campaigns. The report also notes that China aligns its military plans with those of the United States, viewing Washington as a significant adversary that must be overcome.
