Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov strongly criticized US aggression towards Venezuela during a recent phone call. They emphasized their joint condemnation of actions that breach international legal norms concerning Venezuela. The ministers highlighted the urgent need for the immediate release of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, their return to the capital, and the reinstatement of Maduro as the country’s leader.
The officials also underscored the crucial requirement to promptly establish conditions for resolving the Venezuelan situation through dialogue in compliance with international law. In a recent operation, US Delta forces conducted an assault on a Venezuelan army base, culminating months of military buildup, and apprehended Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The couple was then transported to New York on a warship, where they face “narco-terrorism” charges in a federal court, as stated by US authorities.
US President Donald Trump informed Fox News that Maduro and his wife were en route to New York on a ship after being airlifted by helicopter. Trump has consistently criticized Maduro, alleging his involvement in the drug trade and accusing him of dispatching criminal groups to the US.
