Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has urged for clarity regarding the United States’ intentions in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. This call comes after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s comments on the outcomes of the Anchorage summit. Lavrov emphasized that while US proposals were discussed in Alaska, they were accepted by the Russian side.
Rubio stated that there were no final agreements on Ukraine between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump during their meeting in Anchorage. Lavrov previously mentioned that the US has yet to respond to its proposals for a Ukrainian settlement made during the Anchorage summit.
Lavrov highlighted that Russia had received specific proposals before the Russia-US Summit in Alaska, which were approved by President Putin. He expressed disappointment over the lack of response from the US despite initial agreement on the proposals. The Russian Foreign Minister described the understandings reached in Alaska as a compromise.
In response to Rubio’s comments, Lavrov questioned the definition of an agreement, stating that if one side presents settlement proposals and the other side agrees, it should be considered an agreement. He expressed dissatisfaction with Rubio’s assertion that there was no agreement following the Alaska summit.
