Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov mentioned that the US has yet to reply to proposals for a Ukrainian settlement put forward in Alaska’s Anchorage. Lavrov stated that concrete proposals were presented before the Russia-US Summit in Alaska, which Russian President Vladimir Putin approved. Despite initial agreement, there has been no response from the US, as Lavrov expressed during the Primakov Readings forum.
The understandings reached in Alaska were considered a compromise by Lavrov. He emphasized that the agreements aimed to end hostilities and initiate discussions on other issues, with the expectation of progress towards shared goals. Lavrov highlighted that the US had pushed for resolving the Ukraine issue, a matter that Russia believed was settled during the Alaska discussions.
Lavrov also noted that the US had extended existing sanctions on Russia and imposed new ones, despite previous discussions in Alaska. The Russian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to its objectives in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the security and rights of Russian citizens in the region. Lavrov’s statements underscored Russia’s persistence in pursuing a sustainable peace in Ukraine.
