The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the ongoing “special military operation” by Russian troops following the termination of the ceasefire with Ukraine. Moscow accused Kyiv of over 30,000 ceasefire violations within the “special operation zone.” During the ceasefire period from May 8 to May 11, all Russian troop groups strictly adhered to the ceasefire and maintained their positions.
Russia’s state-owned Tass news agency reported that Ukraine conducted 859 attacks on Russian positions using various weapons, including rocket launchers, artillery, mortars, and nearly 5,825 drone attacks. In response, Russian armed forces retaliated by targeting Ukrainian positions with artillery, rocket launchers, and mortar fire, including UAV launch sites.
Dimitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian President, mentioned that significant progress has been made towards a settlement in Ukraine. However, he emphasized that it is premature to discuss specific timelines or objectives at this stage. The Kremlin spokesman highlighted that while the peace process is advancing, it is too early to provide detailed information on the matter.
The Russian Defence Ministry had previously declared a ceasefire from May 8 to May 10 in the conflict with Ukraine, coinciding with the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people’s victory in World War II. This temporary ceasefire aimed to commemorate the historic event and promote peace in the region.
