The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has expressed support for the proposed Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill of 2026. Senior Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema emphasized the need to empower states to conduct their own examinations for recruitments and institutions. He highlighted the importance of decentralization and the establishment of uniform national security standards to enhance the integrity of public examinations.

The SAD leader stressed the significance of preventive measures such as robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), secure technology, and foolproof examination protocols to prevent paper leaks. Cheema underscored the challenges posed by India’s diverse geography, infrastructure, and logistical complexities in conducting centralized examinations. He called for a balance between strong national SOPs and state-level examination autonomy to safeguard the interests of honest students.

The Centre is preparing to present the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. The Bill aims to amend the existing Act following the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy and subsequent protests by students against alleged examination irregularities. Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions Jitendra Singh is scheduled to introduce the Bill in the Lok Sabha session.
