Sanju Samson continued his impressive form by scoring his third consecutive fifty-plus in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. This achievement put him on par with Virat Kohli, making them the only two players to achieve this feat in a T20 World Cup final. Samson’s composed innings, along with Abhishek Sharma’s explosive batting, propelled India to a commanding position.

Samson reached his fifty off 33 balls, playing a steady innings without taking unnecessary risks. Partnering with Abhishek, they guided India to 137 for 1 in just 11 overs, setting a strong foundation for a big total. The duo’s aggressive approach during the powerplay saw India rewrite records, racing to 92 for no loss in just six overs, surpassing previous bests in T20 World Cup history.

India’s innings started cautiously but quickly escalated as Abhishek and Samson unleashed a fierce assault on the New Zealand bowlers, accumulating 80 runs in the last four overs of the powerplay. Abhishek’s attacking style, especially against the seamers, put immense pressure on the opposition, leading to a flurry of boundaries and quick runs. His explosive 52 off 21 balls, combined with Samson’s brisk 33 off 17 deliveries, laid a solid foundation for India.

The partnership between Abhishek and Samson not only marked the first 50-plus opening stand in a men’s T20 World Cup final but also showcased India’s dominance in the match. Their aggressive batting display, supported by a strong start, set the stage for a formidable total as India reached 191/1 in just 14 overs, thanks to their explosive hitting throughout the innings.
