Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has been awarded the ICC men’s player of the month for his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 knockouts. This accolade marks Samson’s first win of this prestigious title, achieved through his remarkable display during the World Cup.
Samson’s journey in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup took a dramatic turn from initially being on the sidelines to becoming a pivotal player in the team. His standout moment came with a remarkable unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in a crucial Super Eights match in Kolkata.
The wicketkeeper-batter continued his impressive form by scoring 89 runs in both the semi-final against England in Mumbai and the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad. His stellar contributions played a significant role in India’s successful title defense on home soil, leading to Samson being honored with the Player of the Tournament award.
Reflecting on this recognition, Samson expressed his gratitude and described the award as a significant milestone in his cricketing career. He emphasized the support received from his teammates and coaching staff, attributing his success to their trust and encouragement.
In addition to Samson, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and South African batsman Connor Esterhuizen were also nominated for the player of the month award. However, it was Samson’s exceptional performances in the T20 World Cup that ultimately secured him the prestigious title.
