The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Abhisek Sen Gupta, an Assistant Manager-cum-Loan Officer at the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Gumi branch in Assam’s Kamrup district. Gupta was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 16,000 from a complainant seeking assistance for rooftop solar electrification installations. The arrest followed a complaint and a subsequent trap set by the CBI.
The agency also conducted searches at Gupta’s premises as part of the ongoing investigation. Gupta is scheduled to appear before the Special Judge, CBI cases, in Guwahati. The CBI officials confirmed that the investigation is still in progress, emphasizing their commitment to combating corruption in public institutions.
In a separate incident earlier this week, the CBI arrested one of its inspectors, Deepak Phalswal, in Delhi for alleged bribery. Phalswal was accused of seeking illegal gratification from a private individual to refrain from acting on a complaint lodged with the CBI. Following the arrest, incriminating documents and electronic records were reportedly found during searches at Phalswal’s residence.
