A 43-year-old school teacher, identified as Rao Danish, was fatally shot on the Aligarh Muslim University campus in Uttar Pradesh, causing alarm among students and staff. Danish, a former student of the university, had been teaching at the ABK High School on campus for 11 years. The incident occurred when he was on his routine evening walk with colleagues.
The teacher was attacked by two men on a scooter around 8.50 p.m. while near the canteen behind the Maulana Azad Library. He was shot multiple times, including twice in the head. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. The shooting occurred in an area known for its evening activity near the university’s central library.
Following the shooting, AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali confirmed the incident, stating that Danish Rao, the victim, was a teacher at the ABK School. The Vice-Chancellor and senior AMU officials visited the hospital, and police authorities, including SSP Neeraj Jadoun, initiated an investigation at the scene. CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify the attackers and their movements.
Police have registered a case and are actively investigating the incident. They assured that all leads are being pursued to resolve the case promptly. Further updates on the investigation are awaited.
