The search and rescue operation is ongoing following the tragic cruise accident at Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. Despite challenging conditions, nine individuals are still missing after the boat capsized during a sudden storm. Madhya Pradesh Minister Rakesh Singh acknowledged the slow progress due to high water levels and darkness but expressed hope for a swift resolution with the assistance of NDRF teams.
At least six fatalities have been confirmed in the incident, with four bodies recovered on Friday morning, predominantly women. Over 24 individuals have been rescued, while many others remain unaccounted for. The accident occurred on Thursday evening at Bargi Dam in Bhedaghat when a cruise boat, carrying over 40 tourists, overturned amidst severe weather conditions.
Jabalpur Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay attributed the vessel’s overturning to a sudden storm and prevailing strong winds. Search operations, involving NDRF and local teams, persisted through the night and resumed early Friday under challenging circumstances of high water levels and limited visibility. Authorities have released a list of missing persons, including specific names like Shree Tamil Viraj Soni and Poonam Thapa, as rescue teams intensify efforts to locate the remaining passengers.
Deceased individuals have been identified as Shreetu Soni, Shaubhagyam Alagan, Madhur Macy, and others, with ongoing efforts for further identification and verification. The search operations continue to trace the missing passengers amidst the difficult conditions at the accident site.
