Security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district have captured three members of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) [ULFA-I] during a recent counter-insurgency mission. The operation, based on specific intelligence, targeted ULFA-I cadres moving in the Phomching area towards Shangnyu village. Assam Rifles troops conducted a precise raid at Shangnyu village, successfully intercepting and detaining all three militants without any gunfire exchange.
The detained individuals are identified as self-styled Lieutenant Gajendra Asom (35) from Tezpur, self-styled Lance Corporal Brojen Asom (27) from Jorhat district, and self-styled Sergeant Puhor Asom (26) from Golaghat district. Gajendra Asom, with ties to the outfit since 2011, is the most experienced, while Brojen Asom and Puhor Asom joined in 2022 and 2019, respectively. Additionally, four grenades were seized from the cadres, hinting at potential disruptive plans in the region.
The successful operation is crucial in averting possible threats to civilian safety and upholding stability in border regions. Interrogations of the captured cadres are ongoing to extract details about their network, movements, and future intentions. This event highlights the ongoing efforts of security agencies in thwarting insurgent activities in the Northeast, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance.
