Senior BJP MLA Biswajit Daimary criticized the Congress party in Assam, attributing its inability to elect a Leader of Opposition to internal distrust and factionalism. Daimary highlighted the lack of confidence among Congress legislators, hindering consensus on leadership appointments.
Despite a late-night Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting, the deadlock over the Leader of Opposition issue persisted. Daimary emphasized the challenge of selecting leadership when trust among leaders is compromised, pointing to the party’s organizational disunity.
Daimary alleged that factional politics within Congress had eroded mutual faith, leading to a breakdown in organizational unity. The failure to officially announce the Leader of Opposition has sparked political speculation regarding internal differences among senior Congress legislators.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel mentioned that the Congress high command would decide on the Leader of Opposition in the Assam Assembly after consulting party legislators. The Congress party, with 19 MLAs in the Assembly, is expected to finalize the appointment following consultations with central leadership.
