A senior Canadian law enforcement official stated that investigators have not found any evidence connecting Indian government officials to the US investigation involving gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and members of organized crime groups. The US authorities revealed three federal indictments charging 37 defendants associated with transnational criminal organizations for various crimes like racketeering, murder, extortion, kidnappings, and drug trafficking across the US, Canada, and Europe.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Deputy Commissioner Lisa Moreland clarified that there was no proof supporting former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims of Indian government agents’ involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. She highlighted that the ongoing Canadian criminal case involves individuals facing charges related to this matter, distinct from the recent indictments.
Moreland emphasized that the organized crime investigation and the announced charges did not implicate Indian officials. She confirmed that the unsealed indictments did not provide any backing for allegations against the Indian government. Despite ongoing investigations and search warrants, no evidence has emerged linking the Indian government to the criminal activities mentioned in the indictments.
The US indictments accuse Lawrence Bishnoi, Satinderjeet Singh (Goldy Brar), and members of other criminal organizations of running international networks involved in serious offenses across multiple countries. The indictment specifically mentions Bishnoi and Brar ordering the assassination of an individual in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18, 2023. Moreland also acknowledged the cooperation of Indian authorities in the multinational operation, highlighting their collaboration with the FBI and other agencies.
