In a surprising development, Kalyan Banerjee, a four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member and senior advocate, chose not to appear for the party’s general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in a case at the Calcutta High Court. Abhishek Banerjee’s petition challenges the CID’s summons to him in a signature mismatch case and requests protection from coercive police actions.
During the court proceedings, advocate Ayan Bhattacharya represented Abhishek Banerjee before Justice Kaushik Chanda at the single-judge vacation bench. Kalyan Banerjee explained to the media that his decision to abstain from representing Abhishek Banerjee stemmed from the latter’s disrespectful behavior towards him.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Kalyan Banerjee highlighted that despite Abhishek Banerjee’s pivotal role in Trinamool Congress’ recent electoral loss in West Bengal, his arrogant demeanor persisted. He emphasized that he would no longer handle any legal matters involving Abhishek Banerjee, including his son and other associates.
Kalyan Banerjee further stated his intention to present an ultimatum to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging her to choose between supporting Abhishek Banerjee and those who remain loyal to her.
