Eight people lost their lives, and one person is missing following severe thunderstorms and strong winds in Hubei Province, China. The storms hit several areas, including Huangshi, Huanggang, Ezhou, and Xianning, with some places experiencing tornadoes and gales reaching level 13. Rescue operations are ongoing in the affected regions.
In Huanggang City’s Huangzhou District, three communities suffered significant damage from the severe weather, leading to 275 injuries and the evacuation of 408 residents to safety by local authorities. Efforts for rescue and relief are actively underway. Additionally, a landslide in Longnan City, Gansu Province, resulted in multiple individuals missing, with search and rescue operations in full swing.
Torrential rains triggered flooding in Nanning City, causing two fatalities and affecting around 55,000 people. The rains, brought by Typhoon Maysak, led to evacuations of 48,000 individuals from the impacted areas. Authorities have implemented early warning and evacuation measures to address potential further flooding risks, with water levels in rivers exceeding warning levels in Guangxi.
The flood-control emergency response for Guangxi was upgraded from Level III to Level II by China’s Ministry of Water Resources. Measures are in place to monitor and manage the situation, with a focus on areas prone to flooding.
