Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has quashed rumors of dissent within his party, asserting his authority over the legislators. Pawar, accompanied by his grandnephew Yugendra Pawar, stated that none of their MLAs are defecting. This declaration comes amidst upheaval in Maharashtra’s political landscape following a significant defection within the Shiv Sena.
The recent defection orchestrated by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction has reshaped the parliamentary numbers, causing concern within the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition. There are apprehensions that the ruling alliance may target Sharad Pawar’s remaining MLAs next, further destabilizing the political scenario in the state.
NCP (Sharad Pawar) MP Supriya Sule has challenged claims of impending splits within the party, daring rival leaders to provide names of dissenting MPs. Sule emphasized unity within the party and the MVA alliance, dispelling rumors of internal discord. She also criticized attempts to politicize cooperative sectors and condemned the alleged manipulation of educational curricula for ideological purposes.
Sule condemned the reported intervention by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in steering defected Shiv Sena MPs towards Eknath Shinde’s camp, questioning the democratic values at play. She highlighted the importance of a robust opposition in upholding democratic principles and criticized the trend of party defections for short-term gains. Sule stressed the significance of preserving democratic traditions and the role of opposition in safeguarding the interests of the public.
