Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar criticized the police action taken against activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is on a hunger strike protesting the NEET-UG issue. Pawar expressed that the protest would persist despite Wangchuk’s arrest, emphasizing the demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister due to the mishandling of the education system affecting numerous students.
Pawar highlighted the unified stance of the Opposition on this matter, mentioning the support extended by Congress leaders, NCP MP Supriya Sule, and representatives of other parties at the protest site in Delhi. He criticized the government for not addressing the issue promptly and announced that the Opposition would raise the issue in the upcoming Parliament session starting July 20.
Former Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole criticized the Narendra Modi government, linking the police action to an upcoming protest march to Parliament. Patole alleged discrepancies in the NEET results, accusing the government of incompetence in conducting examinations transparently and expressing concern over the youth’s growing discontent.
NCP legislator Rohit Pawar accused the central government of forcibly shifting Wangchuk from the protest site to a hospital after realizing his determination to continue the hunger strike. He criticized the government’s approach as oppressive and called for the resignation of the Education Minister instead of using coercion against the protesters, emphasizing the importance of democracy.
