Congress leader Shashi Tharoor expressed confidence in a United Democratic Front (UDF) victory in Kerala, citing a strong desire for change among the people. Tharoor, after an extensive 17-day campaign covering 59 Assembly constituencies, highlighted a pro-UDF sentiment and significant anti-incumbency feelings in the state. The public’s call for change was evident from Parassala to Mattannur, according to Tharoor.
A combination of factors, including dissatisfaction with the current government, credible UDF candidates, and progressive promises, has fueled a movement for change in Kerala. Tharoor emphasized the demand for a people-centric government, with key concerns revolving around responsive administration, job creation, economic recovery, and rebuilding trust in public institutions. The youth, in particular, have been vocal about issues like job scarcity, campus violence, and the education-employment gap.
Tharoor praised the UDF’s candidate lineup for instilling public confidence, comprising leaders with strong grassroots connections and clean records. The UDF’s manifesto, focusing on employment, youth empowerment, women’s progress, and transparent governance, has garnered widespread support across Kerala. Tharoor highlighted the campaign’s impact on politically significant constituencies, energizing grassroots workers and creating a UDF wave statewide.
