Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently met with party leader Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the political scenario in Kerala and recent party developments. Tharoor expressed his views on Kerala’s situation and engaged in talks with Kharge regarding internal party matters. The Congress Legislative Party in Kerala has authorized the party high command to decide the next Chief Minister, with consultations underway to build consensus among legislators and leaders.
In the backdrop of the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s victory in Kerala, ending the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front’s decade-long rule, internal lobbying for the Chief Minister position has intensified. The UDF secured a significant majority in the elections, with Congress winning 63 seats and its ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), securing 22 seats. The LDF, on the other hand, managed 26 seats, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured only three seats.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emerged victorious in the elections, winning from the Dharmadam constituency. Despite his personal victory, the UDF is now gearing up to form the government, leading to heightened discussions within the party regarding the selection of the next Chief Minister. The final decision on the leadership is expected to come from the Congress high command in the near future.
