Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha, also known as “Shotgun,” criticized the Central government and the Election Commission of India for recent events in West Bengal. Sinha condemned the reported removal of 5.1 million voters from the electoral rolls, labeling it as an attack on democracy. He accused the BJP of pressuring constitutional institutions due to their fear of losing in the upcoming state Assembly elections.
Sinha expressed his intention to personally visit West Bengal to assess the situation on the ground. He criticized the BJP’s actions as desperation rather than governance, alleging that the party is resorting to undemocratic means. Sinha also praised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, hailing her as a development role model for the nation and highlighting her governance initiatives like “Swasthya Sathi.”
Describing the voter list deletions as shameful, Sinha accused the BJP and the Election Commission of collaborating in this regard. He vowed that the Trinamool Congress would combat what he termed as dictatorship, asserting the party’s stronghold in West Bengal. Sinha’s statements have intensified the political tensions in the state, particularly regarding the voter list controversy ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
