The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) expressed concerns over Pakistan’s newfound role as a global peacemaker, contrasting it with its previous reputation for fostering terrorism and anti-India activities. The party criticized the Indian government for being sidelined on the international stage as Pakistan emerged as a key mediator following conflicts involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
In a scathing editorial in its mouthpiece, Saamana, the Thackeray camp questioned India’s ability to compete with Pakistan in the future, especially given recent foreign policy decisions. The editorial highlighted the Modi administration’s focus on domestic political issues, which allowed the US and Israel to engage with Pakistan for peace negotiations, bypassing India entirely.
The editorial described the situation as a significant failure for the current Indian government, emphasizing the missed opportunities to engage diplomatically when Pakistan took steps towards peace in the Iran-Israel-US conflict. It criticized the government for underestimating Pakistan’s role and failing to assert India’s position in global politics, contrasting it with the legacy of past leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi.
