The Shiv Sena (UBT) expressed concerns over the political landscape during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12-year rule, accusing the system of rebranding turncoats as rebels instead of upholding democratic norms. The party’s editorial in Saamana highlighted the alleged misuse of constitutional bodies like the Speaker, Election Commission, and judiciary to facilitate political defections.
Drawing parallels with Maharashtra, the editorial pointed out a similar trend in West Bengal post the recent elections. It criticized a faction of TMC lawmakers for joining hands with the BJP, triggering debates on political ethics and the alleged misuse of central authority. The party claimed that the scenario in West Bengal mirrored past political shifts, albeit with different players.
The editorial further criticized the BJP for what it termed as political opportunism. It highlighted how leaders who were previously labeled as corrupt and anti-national by BJP stalwarts were now being embraced by the same party. The editorial questioned the BJP’s integrity, accusing it of using coercion and agencies to weaken opposition parties.
Assessing the situation, the editorial condemned the BJP’s pursuit of power over ethical governance, alleging that corruption was overlooked when tainted leaders switched sides. The Shiv Sena emphasized the need for principled leadership to rebuild the nation amidst the exodus of opportunistic politicians.
In a final note, the Shiv Sena urged Mamata Banerjee not to yield to defectors and emphasized the importance of self-respect and patriotism in shaping the country’s future, despite the challenges posed by political realignments.
