Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed approval of the Centre’s move to formalize the protocol for the rendition of Vande Mataram at official functions. She also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its previous stance on the issue. Chaturvedi highlighted the distinction between ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Vande Bharat’ during her response to the development.
Her comments coincided with the issuance of detailed guidelines by the Union Home Ministry regarding the rendition of Vande Mataram at official events. The guidelines specify the manner and occasions for the performance of the national song, emphasizing its significance at state functions and institutional gatherings. The directive aims to enhance the ceremonial role of Vande Mataram across the country.
The official version of Vande Mataram, consisting of six stanzas and lasting around 3 minutes and 10 seconds, is mandated for major state occasions as per the new norms. This includes events like the unfurling of the national flag and ceremonies involving the President and Governors. The guidelines stress the need for decorum and respect during the rendition, aligning its observance with the protocols for the national anthem.
