The Singapore government has announced the deployment of a RSAF A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft to assist Singaporeans in the Middle East. This initiative aims to facilitate the departure of citizens from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the first flight scheduled for March 10, 2026.
A joint statement from Singapore’s Foreign and Defence Ministry highlighted the urgent need for assisted departures from Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Due to limited commercial options in the region, the government decided to utilize the MRTT aircraft for this purpose. Plans for a second flight from Saudi Arabia on March 12, 2026, are also in progress.
Singapore expressed regret over failed negotiations leading to recent strikes in the Middle East. The country emphasized the importance of returning to peaceful negotiations in line with international law and the UN Charter. Amid the volatile security situation, Singaporeans are advised to defer travel to Israel, Iran, and the Middle East region and take necessary safety precautions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson urged vigilance, recommending residents and travelers in the region to stay informed, follow local government advice, and consider alternative travel routes to avoid disruptions. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly advised for those planning trips.
