Six Shri Amarnath Yatra pilgrims sustained injuries in a road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The incident, which involved a collision with a dumper truck, did not result in any fatalities. The injured individuals, including five pilgrims and their driver, were promptly taken to the Government Medical College in Udhampur for medical attention.
The accident occurred near Jakhani in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. The five injured pilgrims are from Uttar Pradesh, while the driver hails from the Ganderbal district. They were part of a larger convoy of over 3,600 devotees heading from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
Authorities, including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, are ensuring that the injured pilgrims receive necessary medical care. The ongoing Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, which began on July 3, has seen more than 3.50 lakh Yatris visit the holy cave shrine. The pilgrimage, spanning 57 days, will conclude on August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
