Six policemen at the observation home in R.S. Pura, Jammu, were suspended due to the escape of three inmates, including two Pakistani nationals and a local gangster. The incident occurred when the inmates reportedly attacked police personnel and fled the facility. The escaped individuals were identified as local gangster Karanjit Singh alias Gugga, and Pakistani nationals Mohd Sunaullah and Ahsan Anwar.
The mother of the escaped gangster, Karanjit Gugga, also went missing, leading authorities to suspect a premeditated plan behind the escape. Following the incident, police initiated a search operation and formed multiple teams to locate and apprehend the fugitives. The observation home, managed by the Social Welfare Department and established in 1988, caters to undertrials and juveniles in conflict with the law, offering shelter, counseling, education, and rehabilitation support.
Authorities cordoned off nearby areas post-escape and are conducting raids to capture the escaped inmates. These observation homes, operating under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, serve as temporary shelters for juveniles during legal proceedings. The facilities aim to provide inmates with essential amenities, medical care, and rehabilitation to facilitate their reintegration into society.
