A social media account associated with Khalistani extremists has taken credit for the murder of a Canada-based online figure critical of their movement. The victim, identified as Nancy Grewal, 45, from Windsor, was stabbed in LaSalle, Ontario. The extremists’ post in Punjabi stated that she faced consequences for speaking against religion and Khalistan.
Police confirmed that the killing was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence. LaSalle Police Chief Michael Pearce emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and focused on intentional harm against Grewal. Member of Parliament Harb Gill expressed trust in the investigative process and mourned Grewal’s death, highlighting her significant online presence in the Punjabi communities.
Nancy Grewal, known for her anti-Khalistan views, had a strong social media following within local and international Punjabi communities. Described as a personal caregiver, she was alone during an appointment at a client’s home when the attack occurred. The Windsor South Asian Centre’s Programme Director Nandini Tirumala expressed shock and sadness over Grewal’s tragic death, refraining from commenting on Khalistani politics.
