The South Goa Police detained Soham Sushant Naik, a 20-year-old resident of Madegal-Cacora and son of a BJP Curchorem Municipal councillor, in response to public outrage over an alleged sex scandal with 25 to 30 minor girls. Naik was apprehended after citizens and leaders protested at the police station.
Investigations reveal a troubling pattern of abuse over the past three years. Naik purportedly had sexual encounters with minors, recorded them, and used the footage to silence the victims. The scandal surfaced when Naik bragged about his actions at a social gathering, displaying explicit videos to his acquaintances, sparking widespread concern in South Goa.
The case had been under discussion in South Goa, with locals urging action due to its connection to a BJP corporator. Following a drinking party where Naik showed incriminating videos, exposing years of alleged abuse, the police took him into custody. Residents had earlier rallied at the police station, demanding a thorough investigation into the sex-racket videos involving minors.
Protestors insisted on immediate action and the arrest of the accused within 48 hours, threatening a shutdown if the police delayed. They also called for a suo motu FIR registration by the police. State Congress president Amit Patkar urged the government to intervene, initiate a comprehensive inquiry, and ensure justice in the distressing case.
The South Goa Police are examining digital evidence to ascertain the extent of the exploitation of minor girls by Naik. Naik remains in custody while forensic teams work to recover the alleged incriminating videos used for blackmailing the victims.
