Southampton FC’s head coach, Tonda Eckert, faces charges from the Football Association (FA) for alleged misconduct and bringing the game into disrepute by reportedly spying on three clubs during a campaign. An independent disciplinary commission previously expelled Southampton from the Championship Play-Offs due to breaches of EFL regulations related to unauthorized filming of other clubs’ training sessions. The club also received a four-point deduction for the 2026/27 Championship table and a reprimand for the violations.
The Saints appealed the decision, but their appeal was dismissed without further recourse. The League Arbitration Panel emphasized that its ruling is final and cannot be appealed under EFL Regulations. Following the club’s expulsion, the FA initiated its investigation after waiting for the EFL process to conclude.
The FA officially charged Tonda Eckert with three breaches of FA Rule E3.1 for alleged misconduct between December 2025 and May 2026. Rule E3.1 requires participants to always act in the best interests of the game and avoid any actions that could bring the game into disrepute. The charges allege that the head coach improperly directed or authorized the observation of training sessions of Oxford United FC, Ipswich Town FC, and Middlesbrough FC before matches with Southampton FC during specific periods.
Eckert has until July 28 to respond to the charges brought against him by the FA.
