The Southwest Monsoon has strengthened in Karnataka, leading to widespread rainfall in various districts and causing rivers, reservoirs, and lakes to swell. This has resulted in flood-like conditions in parts of the state’s northern region, although it has brought relief from drought conditions.
Belagavi district is one of the severely impacted areas, with continuous rainfall causing rivers like Doodhganga, Markandeya, and Ghataprabha to overflow, submerging vast agricultural lands. Farmers, previously grappling with water scarcity, are now facing losses due to the floods.
Local farmers are seeking compensation as delayed monsoon rains had already harmed crops before the flooding. However, there is a sense of relief among residents as water bodies are finally replenishing after a prolonged water shortage period.
